Air abrasion

Air abrasion is an effective method used by dentist to remove the tooth decay. The instrument used in this procedure works by blowing a fine stream of powerful dry clean air mixed with particles of silica, aluminum oxide, or a baking soda mixture onto the surface of the teeth. The decay is sprayed away from the tooth and the particles of decay are then "suctioned" away.
Air Abrasion is also used by the dentist when he is preparing the teeth for cosmetic surgery, repairing old fillings and sealants and restoring broken bridges and crowns.
This technique has many advantages such as: it is completely silent, and produces no vibration or heat. It is virtually painless reducing the need for anesthesia. It also preserves more your tooth and reduces the risk of enamel micro fracturing or chipping of the tooth. Air abrasion can also be used to remove superficial stains and tooth discolorations and some old composite restorations.
